Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut Gets Overview Trailer, Opening Movie

Sega released a couple of videos for Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut ahead of the game’s release as a Nintendo Switch 2 launch title this week. A three-minute video gives an overview of the game’s 1988 setting and story, as well as its combat, mini-games, and online co-op missions. Meanwhile, the game’s opening movie features the song “Bubble” by Shōnan no Kaze, which was not included in previous western releases of the game.

Yakuza 0 is a prequel to the long-running Yakuza/Like a Dragon series. The game is set in 1988 and follows younger versions of Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima as they are caught in a turf war between warring yakuza clans. The game was initially released for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 in Japan in 2015, before coming to PlayStation 4 in both North America and Europe in January 2017. A PC version released in 2018, with an Xbox One release following in 2020. The Nintendo Switch 2 Director’s Cut version — releasing on June 5, 2025 — includes new cutscenes; a new online multiplayer mode; English voiceovers; and French, Italian, German, and Spanish text localisations.
