Digimon Story Time Stranger Details Digimon Systems

Bandai Namco released new details and media for the upcoming Digimon Story Time Stranger. The new information covers some of the game’s gameplay systems, including obtaining Digimon, growth systems, Digivolution, and more.

In Digimon Story Time Stranger, Digimon are electronic lifeforms with organic and electrical characteristics. Players take on their first encounter using a Digimon chosen by them and provided by ADAMAS, the organisation they work for. As players defeat particular Digimon, they acquire more data on their Digivice about it. Once enough data is obtained, they can create their own instance of it. Players are able to obtain over 450 Digimon in total through the various Digivolation paths.

Each Digimon is one of seven types and has resistances or weaknesses to a selection of eleven elements. Different types are also strong or weak to other types; for example, Virus-type Digimon are weak to Vaccine-type Digimon, which are in turn weak to Data-type Digimon. Attacking an enemy’s weakness will provide a +100% damage bonus, meaning that attacking both type and element weaknesses at once will provide a 3x multiplier. In addition, each instance of a Digimon comes with one of sixteen personality types. These affect their stat growth, skills acquisition, and Digivolution conditions. For example, a Daring personality gets higher growth in Attack and Defense attributes.

Digivolution allows a Digimon to change into more powerful forms. Digivolution is non-linear, with certain conditions allowing a Digimon to take a different Digivolution path. Digimon can also be De-digivolved back into an earlier stage, which allows for alternate training strategies. In addition to powering up by battling with the party, Digimon can also be trained at the Digifarm. This allows them to train on their own, with players able to add items to the farm to help boost their training.

Digimon Story Time Stranger also introduces Agent Skills. These represent the player character’s abilities, and they can spend points earned by completion missions to unlock various effects. These include increased experience gain and unlocking Digivolution requirements. Players can further obtain special techniques called Cross Arts. These fuse the player’s Digivice to a Digimon’s power and provide effects including stat boosts and follow-up attacks. As players’ Digimon grow, they will also increase their own Agent Rank, which also powers up their Digimon.

Developed by Media.Vision, Digimon Story Time Stranger begins in a version of Tokyo, where the protagonist is an agent of ADAMAS, which investigates various phenomena. Entering a sealed-off Shinjuku, they encounter a Digimon before being caught up in an explosion. They find themselves awakening eight years in the past and must prevent the world’s upcoming collapse. The game will release internationally for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S will launch on October 3, 2025.
