Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster Shows More of Its World, Mini-Games, Combat

Square Enix released new details and images for the upcoming Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster ahead of its release as a Nintendo Switch 2 launch title on June 5, 2025. The update covers more of the game’s world, its new mini-games, and additional elements of its turn-based combat system.

Bravely Default is set in the world of Luxendarc, where balance is kept by four elemental crystals. After a Great Chasm causes darkness to appear, four warriors end up teaming together on a journey to restore light to the crystals. On that journey, they travel to various locations. One is the city of Ancheim, filled with machinery and powered by windmills reliant on the forces of the Wind Crystal. However, the winds have stopped, with citizens forced to operate the turbines by hand while Khamer and the Profiteur Merchantry have a monopoly on the city’s water. Another location is the riverside city of Florem. Traditional men are not allowed in the humble town, but recent developments have seen it develop into pleasure district, with a squad called the Bloodrose Legion consisting of Commander DeRosa and the Venus sisters seeming to have something to do with it.

Elsewhere, Grandship is a nation built upon a giant ship floating in the ocean. It is completely netural in world affairs, serving as a supply port for all ships sailing in the sea. Finally, the town of Hartschild has been the stronghold of the Shieldbearers after an uprising from the Swordbearers divided the nation of Eisenberg in a civil war. The Shieldbearers have been kept on the back foot in the fighting thanks to the Black Blades, a group of soldiers supporting the Swordbearers.

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster includes two new mini-games that make use of the Nintendo Switch 2’s mouse controls. Luxencheer Rhythm Catch sees party members dance along to songs while reminiscing about their adventures, with players wielding lux sticks to cheer them on. It includes three different note types as well as a spectator mode. Ringabel’s Panic Cruise sees Ringabel acting a crusie ship captain, steering the airship in line with his comrades’ orders. Players will need to steer the wheel and adjust the altitude lever to advance through the rings, as well as use its shield and cannons to defeat foes that make get in the way. Mini-games will award players with token that can swapped for rewards. Another returning element is reconstruction of protagonist Tiz’s home town of Norende. As players build new facilities and attract more guests, they will able to unlock shops that provide powerful equipment as well as new special moves.

Combat includes the option for players to summon friends and guest players to aid them in battle. Players can send their characters and their moves, which can then be used by others in their games. Players can Abilink with friends to be able to borrow abilities that they haven’t yet been able to learn. Players can also customise their own special moves to generate different effects, such as healing or attacks, as well as provide different boosts that apply while the special move music continues to play.

Finally, the images show case the abilities of various Jobs available in the game. New Jobs are unlocked by defeating certain foes, which allows the party to obtain their Asterisk stone and lets them use that enemy’s Job. Different Jobs all have their own skillsets and special abilities to make use of. Showcased in the new images are the Thief, Merchant, Spell Fencer, Time Mage, Ranger, Summoner, Valkyrie, Red Mage, Salve-Maker, Performer, Pirate, Ninja, and Swordmaster.
