Digimon Story Time Stranger Gets First Details
Bandai Namco held a special presentation for the newest Digimon Story title, Digimon Story Time Stranger, during its Digimon Con 2025 event. The presentation was given by producer Ryosuke Hara, who provided details about the game’s story, setting, and characters. He also revealed that main character design are by Suzuhito Yasuda (Yozakura Quartet, Durarara!!, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor, Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth), with some boss character designs from Oh! great (Tenjho Tenge, Air Gear), and music from Masafumi Takada (Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth, Danganronpa).
Digimon Story Time Stranger begins in a version of Tokyo, where the protagonist is an agent of ADAMAS, which investigates various phenomena. Entering a sealed-off Shinjuku, they encounter a Digimon before being caught up in an explosion. They find themselves awakening eight years in the past and must prevent the world’s upcoming collapse. Time is an important keyword for the game’s story. It will focus on trying to uncover the cause for the world’s future collapse, though the protagonist is not able to travel through time at their own will.
The game is split into sections taking place in the real world and the Digital World: Iliad. Real world section take place primarily in Shinjuku and Akibahara, while the Digital World: Iliad involves a place called Central Town, which is home to all sorts of Digimon, including various shops. There will be more frequent visits to the Digital World than the Cyber Sleuth games, with the game using a symbol encounter system for initiating combat.
Like with the Cyber Sleuth games, players can choose between the male or female protagonist, known respectively as Dan Yuki and Kanan Yuki. However, unlike the previous games where the unselected protagonist option did not appear, in Digimon Story Time Stranger, the unselected choice will act as the selected protagonist’s operator, providing instructions and information from ADAMAS’s HQ. Another important character is Inori Misono. She is a high school girl who experienced a certain event in her past, which partly leads to her accompanying the protagonist. Inori has a partner Digimon named Aegiomon, who is also key to the story. Aegiomon also acts as an extra party member in combat in addition to the three Digimon controlled by the protagonist.
As with other Digimon Story titles, Digimon Story Time Stranger involves players recruiting, powering-up, and digivolving various Digimon. Early on in the game, players will be able to choose from one of three partner Digimon provided by ADAMAS: Patamon, Gomamon, and DemiDevimon. The game is said to feature over 450 Digimon in total (compared to around 250 Digimon in Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth and around 330 in Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth – Hacker’s Memory). In addition, a group of powerful Digimon called the Olympos XII, which serve as protectors of the Digital World: Iliad, will play a major role in the game.
Digimon Story Time Stranger is developed by Media.Vision and is planned to release later this year. The game will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
