Lost in the Open Showcases Gameplay

Independent developer Black Voyage Games released a new trailer for its upcoming roguelike tactical RPG Lost in the Open. The minute-long video shows snippets of gameplay and reminds the title can be wishlisted on Steam. The developer also announced that its game will be featured during the Steam Next Fest, which starts on June 10, 2024. A demo version of the title is available on the game’s Steam page until June 17, 2024.

Lost in the Open is in development for PC, with a 2024 release window. The game puts players in the role of Nrvesk, the tyrannical ruler of Ruedome, who is wounded in an assassination attempt during a meeting with neighboring country Stratha. Players must navigate the harsh environment, surviving by recruiting loyal bodyguards along the way while attempting to escape the pursuing Strathan soldiers.

Battles require a strategic approach, as enemies will attempt to pull units out of position to lure them into traps and flank the king. Node-based exploration offers narrative choices such as taking bribes or engaging in combat, as well as helping strangers with the possibility of reward or betrayal. The game features a randomized world, progression, and encounters, providing a different experience with each playthrough. Gold obtained from battles and exploration can be used to upgrade the party’s weapons and armor, while new skills and perks can be unlocked by gaining experience from battles.

Fascinated by the screens since I saw them, video games are a sorcery I quickly become obsessed with. This passion culminated with the discovery of the RPGs. At that time, they were likely the sole titles where story and world building mattered as more as gameplay. Now, I am, writing about them, especially my favorite ones: the JRPGs!
