Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Switch Release Date Announced

Nintendo has revealed RPG Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door will be released for Nintendo Switch on May 23, 2024. The announcement of the release date was made during a short presentation by Shigeru Miyamoto to celebrate “MAR10 Day”. The game is a remaster of the second title in the Paper Mario series, originally released for the GameCube in 2004. It is currently available for pre-order via the Nintendo eShop.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door takes place in the Mushroom Kingdom, and sees Mario hunting for treasures known as the Crystal Stars. However, Mario isn’t the only one in search of the Crystal Stars, with others looking to use the artifacts for their nefarious purposes. It’s up to Mario to find the treasure, open the Thousand-Year Door, and save the world in the process. Players travel around the world in their hunt for the Crystal Stars, entering towns in a perpetual state of twilight, and performing investigations on board a moving train along the way. Just like other games in the Paper Mario series, the battles are turn-based and require players to time button presses to increase their attack power and reduce damage taken.

I have been gaming since I received the Sega Master System as a young child, which was the first console I ever owned (Yes, I am that old). The game that got me into RPGs was Final Fantasy VIII, a game that I still adore to this day. My favorite RPG of all time, however, is Shadow Hearts on the PS2. I do have many other interests outside of gaming as well, such as watching old-school wrestling, Reading books, 80s movies.... or anything 80s related as a matter of fact.
