Baldur’s Gate III Panel from Hell Offers Some Final Reveals

Larian Studios held its latest Panel from Hell presentation for Baldur’s Gate III. Dubbed the Release Showcase and viewable in full below, the presentation — hosted by Larian Studios founder Swen Vincke — provided more details and gameplay footage from the game, including its final playable Origin character.

The final playable Origin is known as The Dark Urge, who appeared in Larian Studios’ community-driven murder mystery Blood in Baldur’s Gate. Unlike the other playable Origins, which can act as potential party members, The Dark Urge is available only as the player character and is fully customisable including their class, appearance, species, and gender, though their default option is an alabaster dragonborn. As the Dark Urge, players begin the game with their memories lost but with an insatiable urge that makes itself known through their thoughts and dialogue options, and will need to either give in to the brutal impulses or try and resist them.

The Dark Urge is guided by the new character Sceleritas Fel. Voiced by Brian Bowles, who acted as the narrator for Divinity: Original Sin II, Fel is a loyal servant of the Dark Urge who wishes to return them to their path of indiscriminate bloodshed. The presentation also introduced another antagonist joining the previously revealed Enver Gortash and General Ketheric. Orin the Red, played by Maggie Robertson, is a shapeshifting murderess.

Larian Studios also revealed more options available in the game’s character creation tools and some extra tidbits about the romance options. The new options include more skin options such as freckles, scars, etc.; new tattoo designs; heterochromia; lip makeup customisation; accessories including earrings and other piercings; and Tiefling horn colour customisation. Meanwhile, the game’s romance options are designed to other many different formulas on how relationships can play out, with a few examples shown during the presentation.

Baldur’s Gate III has been in Early Access on PC and Mac since 2020, and will fully release on PC and Mac on August 3, 2023, before launching on PlayStation 5 on September 6, 2023. The game is based on the fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons ruleset. Its story begins with the customisable player character and some others captured and forced to host a Mindflayer tadpole before the airship they are on crashes.
