Pokémon Scarlet, Violet Show Further Terastallization, Picnics, More

The Pokémon Company released a new fourteen-minute gameplay video, as well as new screenshots and details, for the upcoming Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. The update covers multiple elements in the games, including showing more of the new Terastallization feature, plus picnics and player customisation. It also introduces a new Pokémon species, Farigiraf, an evolution of Garifarig.

The video begins with a quick look at a trainer encountering a few wild Pokémon and demonstrating the new Terastallization element of combat, which is unique to the games’ Paldea region. Terastallization causes a Tera Jewel to appear on a Pokémon’s head and its body to take on a gem-like appearance. All Paldean Pokémon can Terastallize, and each Pokémon has its own Tera Type. Terastallization boosts the power of moves associated with its Tera Type and will change the Pokémon’s Type to that of its Tera Type.

It then moves onto the Let’s Go action, which lets players send the first Pokémon in their party out in a specified direction. They may encounter wild Pokémon, which they will automatically battle, or pick up any items they find. It also shows the game’s map system as well as a special encounter that forms part of the Starfall Street storyline where players take on a group of trouble-causing delinquents called Team Star. The encounter sees players using three Pokémon to take on grunt Pokémon using the Let’s Go command before getting into a boss encounter with a Team Star leader.

The video also shows the new TM Machine, which players can use to create TMs to teach new moves to their Pokémon. These TMs are created using materials players obtain by defeating wild Pokémon. It also quickly shows the Herba Mystica and Victory Road storylines as well as the new Pokémon Farigiraf. It is a Normal/Psychic-Type Pokémon and sees both of its head combining together into one.

Following this, the video shows some of the trainer appearance customisation options that players have, plus the game’s photo mode, before diving into the new picnics feature. Here, players can spend time and bond with their Pokémon. Available actions include playing with the party, washing Pokémon, and finding Pokémon eggs, as well as a new sandwich-making mini-game. Players can choose which fillings and condiments to use, but will need to stack the sandwich carefully to ensure it stays together. The finished sandwich will help restore their Pokémon’s HP and potentially provide other effects. Players can customise their picnic setups and enjoy them in co-op, with the video also showing one of the new Terastallization raid battles.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will release worldwide for Nintendo Switch on November 18, 2022. They will be available physically and digitally, including in a physical bundle containing both games, with European copies for the dual pack including a SteelBook case. Those who purchase one of the games before February 28, 2023, will be able to receive a special in-game Pikachu that knows the move Fly and has the Flying Tera Type.
