Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Gets Additional Combat Details

Following its announcement of a new release date for Monolith Soft’s Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Nintendo has provided some additional details on the game’s combat system. The game will give players a six-member party, with additional characters sometimes joining them. Each party member uses weapons called Blades that they can materialise at will. Blades are reflections of their wielders, taking different forms including swords, guns, shields, and spears. Players can change their party members’ classes as they progress across the world of Aionios.

In addition, each of the three pairs of party members can combine into a joint giant form called an Ouroboros if they meet certain conditions. The fusion process is called Interlinking and the Ouroboros form comes with its own powerful move set, but if used for too long, the Ouroboros will overheat. Noah and Mio’s Ouroboros form uses a large sword, while Lanz and Sena’s large form allows them to protect their allies, and Eunie and Taion’s form gives them the ability to revive all of their allies.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is set in a world that connects the futures of the settings of Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles 2. It follows protagonists Noah and Mio as they navigate the hostilities between the nations of Keves and Agnus. Noah is a soldier from Keves, while Mio is a soldier from Agnus, both of whom are joined by allies from their side. The game will release worldwide for Nintendo Switch on July 29, 2022.
