Hajime Tabata Announces New Studio JP Games
Hajime Tabata, the director of Final Fantasy XV who left his post at Square Enix’s Luminous Productions studio at the end of October, has announced the formation of his new studio. The new studio, JP Games, will officially launch in January 2019.
While at Square Enix, Hajime Tabata worked on numerous titles, which included serving as director on PlayStation Portable titles The 3rd Birthday and Final Fantasy Type-0 as well as the latter’s HD edition for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. He took over as director of Final Fantasy XV from Tetsuya Nomura in December 2013, taking the game through to its release and its various DLC additions. Three of the remaining four DLCs for the game were announced as being cancelled at the same time his departure was announced.
I kind of worry about this.. Calling it JP Games pretty much means they are only going to create games for the Japanese market and never bring them to the US or EU gamers.
Not necessarily true. The Tokyo RPG Factory games have made the leap from Japan – this strikes me as a similarly uninspired company name. Unless JP Games focuses on mobile stuff, in which case we might not see anything in English.
He did make the announcement in both Japanese and English so I don’t think that’s too much of a concern. And as Krull says its more a highlight that that’s where these games are from (i.e. “woo, JRPGs”) rather than where they’re releasing.
Hmm… Okay… Well… I guess we will have to wait and see. Hopefully we get stuff out this way.
