More Mythical Pokémon Meltan Details Revealed

The Pokémon Company, Niantic, and Nintendo have revealed more details about the new mythical Pokémon Meltan that is coming to both Pokémon GO as well as Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!. Finding the Pokémon requires that players use the transfer feature between the smartphone game and one of the Switch titles.

When players transfer a Pokémon from Pokémon GO to Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! or Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!, they will receive various items such as Candies or Poké Balls. However, the first time they do so they will receive a special Mystery Box. When opened in Pokémon GO, this box causes Meltan to begin appear in the game, and players can attempt to catch it in the same way as any other Pokémon. When caught, Meltan can be transferred into Let’s Go, Pikachu! or Let’s Go, Eevee!. After it has been used, the Mystery Box will close and can only reopen again after a set time, at which point the player will need to transfer a new Pokémon to reopen it.

Pokémon Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon Let’s Go, Eevee! are due to launch worldwide for Nintendo Switch on November 16, 2018. The games blend a remake of Pokémon Yellow with elements from smartphone title Pokémon Go, with wild Pokémon now visible on screen before being encountered and these taking the form of Pokémon Go’s capture encounters rather than standard Pokémon battles.
