Shin Megami Tensei V Receives Second News Video

Atlus posted the second entry in its series of “news” programs for Shin Megami Tensei V. The eight-minute video is in Japanese but has English subtitles available. Hosted by Chiaki Matsuzawa, it provides information on additional cast members and character growth in the game.

The first new character introduced is Shohei Yakumo. He wears a police outfit and stands in the way of the protagonist’s advancement through Da’at. He is a self-proclaimed hunter of all demons but appears to work alongside a demon. That demon is called Nuwa (Joka in the Japanese version), a goddess from Chinese mythology, and she has worked with Yakumo since he was young on an unspecified goal. The final character is Abdiel. She is an archangel and the Deputy Angel Commander of Bethel. She is uncompromising against all those who threaten Bethel’s ideal of order.

Shin Megami Tensei V features new attribute and skill-upgrading features. As players explore Da’at, they will find the essences of demons. These essences contain the skills and affinities of the demon and by fusing them with the protagonist, players can customise his skills and elemental affinities. Players can also obtain a resource called Glory. This can be spent to learn Miracles, powerful abilities that help players, such as demon allies summoned in battle having a random stat raised, assisting demon negotiations, and powering up fusions.

Shin Megami Tensei V is the fifth mainline title in the series, which has branched into numerous spin-offs including Persona. The game will release exclusively for Nintendo Switch in Japan on November 11, 2021, and in North America and Europe on November 12, 2021.
