Kickstarter Check-In: Bound by Blades, Summer Daze at Hero-U

RPGamer’s ad hoc Kickstarter Check-In feature returns for a look at two ongoing crowdfunding campaigns. This edition features Zeth’s Bound by Blades and Transolar Games’ Summer Daze at Hero-U.

Bound by Blades

Bound by Blades is a boss-hunting action RPG from solo developer Justin “Zeth” Thompson. The game is set in the land of Ashmyr, which has been overrun by beasts known as Ilcyon. Players will go out on missions to take down these beasts, learning about and preparing for their next target in town ahead of each mission.

The game will include three playable characters, each with their own starting combat style. Combat utilises a four square structure, with players moving between the four corners of the screen while the boss sends out attacks from the centre. There will be ten core Ilcyon, with multiple variants, as well as an end game dungeon system inspired by elements of FTL, Slay the Spire, and Diablo III. Bound by Blades will include two player co-op, as well as AI companions for solo players.

Bound by Blades is being developed for PC, iOS, and Android, with a Nintendo Switch version to follow. Zeth is looking for $30,000 in funding by October 30, 2019. Those who pledge at least $7 will receive a copy of the game for iOS or Android, while those who pledge at least $15 will receive a copy of the game for PC, as part of their backer rewards. The game is currently expected to release sometime towards the end of 2022. A demo is available to download through itch.io.

Summer Daze at Hero-U

Summer Daze at Hero-U is a follow-up to adventure title Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption from Transolar Games, a developer founded by Quest for Glory creators Lori and Corey Cole. The game aims to be a quicker-paced adventure to its predecessor, combining elements of visual novels, point-and-click adventure titles, and light RPGs.

Summer Daze at Hero-U features two distinct playable characters: the wizard Ifeyo or the rogue Tilly. Players select their chosen character and try to make friends, find excitement, and ultimately help the Harvest Festival succeed or fail.

The game is being developed for PC, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android. Transolar Games is looking for $99,999 in funding by November 5, 2019. Those who pledge at least $25 will receive a copy of the game as part of their backer rewards, with the game currently expected to launch in 2021. A demo is available to download through itch.io.
