Actor Arrest Leads to Suspension of Judgment Sales in Japan

Sega has announced that it has voluntarily suspended shipments and digital sales for Judgment, released in the country as Judge Eyes, following the arrest of actor Pierre Taki. The actor — who voices and provides the likeness for Kyohei Hamura, the captain of the Tojo Clan subsidiary Matsugane family, in the game — was arrested on suspicion of using cocaine. Japan is noted for strict drug-control laws, and in the past actors who have been arrested in violation of such laws have had their work removed.

Judgment is a legal thriller developed by Yakuza developer Ryū ga Gotoku Studio and set in Yakuza’s fictional Kamurocho district of Tokyo. The game follows former defense lawyer turned private detective Takayuki Yagami as he becomes involved in a serial killer case and was released for PlayStation 4 in Japan in December 2018. A western release date of June 25, 2019, was recently announced, but it is unclear at this stage whether this will impact the game’s planned western release.
