Roll them bones!

Greetings and welcome once again my friends. It might still be a cold February, but the gaming world is just starting to heat up. Last week's Game Developers Conference was co-sponsored this year by Wizards of the Coast's Gleemax gaming community. You might have heard of them. Yesterday Dungeons and Dragons Experience 2008 started in Washington, D.C. Feel free to send in a synopsis if you attended. Those who are interested in 4th Edition Dungeons and Dragons will want to snag the rules primer Wizards of the Coast posted on their website.

This time we have a review of Green Ronin's Hammer and Helm - A Guidebook to Dwarves and in the next column we will finish up our Green Ronin trilogy of reviews with a review of the Advanced Player's Manual.

Do not forget, we have launched some new games in the Roleplaying Forum. Of course we are always looking for new players and Game Masters who are interested in a little Play-By-Post. Swing by and start a game, or join one.

RPG Superstar Winner Announced

Last week Paizo Publishing announced Christine Schneider as the winner of the RPG Superstar contest. Christine's winning entry will be published in January 2009 as GameMaster Module S1: Clash of the Kingslayers and will retail for $12.99. In order to win, Christine had to beat out over 850 other entrants over the course of six rounds.

"Christine Schneider managed to impress the judges and the voting public with each new submission," said Erik Mona, Paizo's Publisher and one of the three RPG Superstar judges. "Round after round her ideas placed her in the front of the pack, a particularly impressive feat for a writer for who English is a second language. I'm thrilled that the first winner of RPG Superstar is part of the worldwide community of RPG gamers, and I look forward to working with Christine Schneider for many years to come.

Magic: The Gathering Weaves its Way Onto Xbox Live Arcade

Wizards of the Coast announced earlier this week a partnership with Stainless Games, Ltd. and Mind Control Software, Inc to bring new games based on the Magic: The Gathering license to Xbox Live Arcade, PC and Mac platforms. Stainless Games will be developing for Xbox Live Arcade and PC, while Mind Control will develop a game for the PC and Mac.

"We're excited to bring the Magic brand to new platforms and give our fans new ways to experience this great property," said Jared Gustafson, Brand Director for Magic: The Gathering at Wizards of the Coast. "It's partnerships like these that will advance the strategy games category and transform it to meet the needs and desires of today's digital gamers."

No further details on the games, including release dates, are available at this time.

Outro

Oh the joys of ice storms. They just give me a warm and fuzzy feeling inside. I expected the power to go out, and my laptop's worthless battery give out in totality about five seconds before I finished this and saved. Yes, I ignore the old mantra of "save often". And it usually comes back to bite me.

Again, if you have any suggestions, ideas, or other things you think might improve the column, just click on the e-mail link below and send me an e-mail. I am particularly interested in any ideas for format change you might have. I am thinking of doing some forum-based updates--I always seem to get news items the day after I post the column as well.
