Today, Square Enix announced that Drakengard 3 for PlayStation 3 will be released in North America and Europe in 2014. Both regions will receive a digital version, but only North America has been confirmed to have a physical release at this time. It will retail for US$49.99.
Drakengard 3 is a prequel, so no prior knowledge of the other two games is said to be required to jump right into this. The story focuses on Zero, the eldest of six goddess-like sisters, as she and her dragon Mikhail attempt to murder the other five sisters. There will be melee ground combat as well as aerial dragon battles in this action RPG.
Many of the staff that worked on cult classic Nier are also involved in the development of Drakengard 3, including composer Keichi Okabe. His work on Nier won RPGamer's Best Music award in 2010.
