BioWare announced today that the company will be shipping Mass Effect 2 in North America on January 26, 2010, and Europe on January 29. Those who pre-order the title will receive in-game bonuses, depending on where the game is ordered.
"Our fans are in for a genuine thrill in the New Year with Mass Effect 2 – the second installment in the trilogy will be of amazingly high quality," said Dr. Ray Muzyka, co-founder, BioWare and Group General Manager of the RPG/MMO Group of EA. "BioWare’s fans worldwide have been eagerly awaiting this epic sequel, and we couldn’t be more excited to reward them for pre-ordering by delivering some awesome bonus content!"
Those pre-ordering the game through GameStop will receive the Terminus Gear. This includes the terminus armor, which is built for extreme planetary conditions, allowing for increased running speed and personal shields, as well as an augmentation of weapons adding another magazine of ammo. Also included is the M-90 Blackstorm heavy weapon, which creates its own localized high-powered gravity well, allowing for the acceleration of particles to near-infinite mass.
Anyone pre-ordering the game from other retailers will receive the Inferno Armor. This armor provides Shephard with a negotiation bonus, an increase in run speed, and augmented damage from combat powers.
The game will be released on both Windows PC and Xbox 360, while rumors of a PlayStation 3 version continue to swirl. Those interested in more details regarding the game can visit the title's official site.
