Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time's North American release window was hinted at a couple of weeks ago. Though that exact date may not be correct, the release of the game is now official. Square Enix announced today that Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time for the Nintendo DS and Wii is coming to North America, and it will be released in Spring 2009.
The story in the game details a 16-year-old hero's completion of his coming-of-age ceremony when he returns from monster-infested forest. Before the hero can enjoy his return, a girl from the village is struck with "crystal sickness." The hero vows to find the cure, and on his first journey into the world he discovers a greater mystery in that crystals are artifacts of the past and no longer exist.
The title will have cross-platform multiplayer, allowing DS and Wii players from around the world to adventure together for the first time, assumingly over the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Players will be able to switch between single and multiplayer modes directly in the game world. The control scheme will be similar to Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates and it has been adapted to the Wii. Players can create their hero from four races: Clavats, Lilties, Selkies or Yukes, and those playing the game on the Wii can use their Mii in some regard. Square Enix says that "no two heroes will be the same" due to each player's ability to tailor his character's appearance and abilities. Armor, equipment, and materials can also be created and customized. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time will feature many quests to embark upon, which will provide hours of gameplay even after the main quest has been completed.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time is rated E10+. Expect more news on the game in the coming months.
