In the first half of next year, Sega is set to release another collection of its classic Genesis titles. The upcoming game, Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, may not appear to interest RPGamers by name alone. However, included in the 40+ game collection will be seven classic RPGs: Phantasy Star II, Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom, Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millenium, Shining Force, Shining Force II, Shining in the Darkness, and Beyond Oasis.
All games in the collection have been converted to high-definition (720p), and earning achievements or trophies will unlock extra content. Offline multiplayer will be available in the titles which support it. Some of the non-RPG games included will be Golden Axe I-III, Streets of Rage 1-3, Sonic the Hedgehog 1-3, and the two Vectorman games.
Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection will be priced at $29.95, which is cheaper than buying the RPGs alone on Nintendo's Virtual Console. There are unlockable games on the collection which have not been revealed yet, so RPG fans have the possibility for even more surprises from this game. Sega has set the release window for Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for Spring of 2009.
