Square Enix has announced two new characters for its upcoming mecha-based strategy RPG Front Mission 5: Scars of the War, in addition to adding a bit more detail to one of the previously revealed characters.
Front Mission 5: Scars of the War stars Walter Fenn, a Wanzer pilot in the military of the United States of the New Continent (USN). As previously reported, Walter's Commanding Officer is a woman by the name of Lin Wainwright. New information about Lin states that she and Walter have a long history together as they both grew up in the same area, and over time, she has developed feelings for her subordinate.
Walter and Lin will also be joined by two new characters:
- Randy O'Neill: Randy is also a childhood friend of Walter and, like his friend, a soldier for the USN. Though very nice, Randy rarely comes across as reliable. Despite his apparent capriciousness, though, Randy has a strong sense of right and wrong and a loathing of unfair play. Randy also loves chocolate, and he keeps a candy bar in his front pocket at all times.
- Glen Duval: Like Randy and Lin, Glen is a childhood friend of Walter Fenn. Unlike the others, however, Glen did not join the military of the USN. Instead, he became a soldier for the Oceania Community Union (OCU), a rival superstate controlling what was previously the nations of Japan, Australia, and the Philippines. Glen has a large scar on his left hand, which he got when he protected Walter from harm when they were both young. Though Walter has a scar across his face from a childhood incident, it is not clear if the two are related.
Front Mission 5: Scars of the War will be released in Japan on December 22. Square Enix has yet to make a formal announcement of a North American localization.
