Persona 5

With Persona 5 approaching its release date in Japan, Atlus has been providing various small updates detailing various features in the game. The updates come with an assortment of new screenshots, with new character trailers for party members Anne Takamaki, Haru Okumura, Futaba Sakura, and Ryuji Sakamoto also released and viewable below.

Like with Persona 4 Golden, Persona 5 will include some online features in the form of the Phantom Thieves Alliance. Using this feature will have no effect on the story, but can provide assistance in dungeons and when deciding what to do in free time sections. In combat, if an ally is knocked unconscious they can be taken hostage. If players refuse to pay the item demand or otherwise fail at negotiating to get them back, the character will not be able to battle. However, players can use the Alliance for help.

Dungeon sections also feature an alertness meter that rises when players are detected. If this meter goes too high then players may be prevented from advancing further. Players can reduce it by doing sneak attacks, but it can be increased if enemies run away, which can be prevented by the Phantom Thieves Alliance. Outside of dungeons, the Phantom Thieves Alliance offers possible options on things to do during the protagonist's daily life as a high-school student. It shows players what others have chosen to do on that day, as well as providing percentages for the answers of other players during class.

Dungeons, such as the huge Mementos Dungeon, provide more movement options than previous Persona games. Where there appears to be a dead-end, players can now traverse areas by climbing scaffolds and walls or leaping between chandeliers. The Mementos Dungeon is also the setting for free quests called Mementos. The dungeon changes appearance each time the party enters, with Morgana changing into her previously-revealed minibus form to help traverse the expansive area.

Persona recruitment is also different from Persona 3 and 4, using the return of the negotation system. Fusion is once again present, with the ceremony this time featuring an execution styling inkeeping with the game's rebirth theme. Persona 5 also lets players give their Personas special training, which rewards the Persona with a new skill that can help nullify a weakness.

Persona 5 is due out in Japan on September 15, 2016. The game is being released in North America by Atlus USA and in Europe by Deep Silver for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, with both regions receiving the game on February 14, 2016.
