At this year's TGS, Square Enix held another Active Time Report for Final Fantasy XV. The presentation offered some details on the game's setting, characters, and a couple of gameplay aspects.
The world of Final Fantasy XV is almost completely dominated by the Nifheim Empire, with the exception of the Kingdom of Lucis. Lucis is ruled by King Regis, Noctis' father, who as the crystal's guardian has used its power to defend Lucis from Niflheim's advances. However, using the power is not without cost and it has caused Regis to age more rapidly. In his past, Regis is known to have fought with the characters Cid and General Cor. Regis' wife and Noctis' mother died when Noctis was an infant.
Lunafreya is the oracle from the city of Tenebrae, who supposedly has the power to talk to the gods. She is said to be the youngest oracle in history, and her position offers Tenebrae a degree of autonomy from Niflheim's rule. Lunafreya and Noctis knew each other as children and made a promise together, though what that promise is has not been revealed. Another character, Gentiana, was also revealed in the recently-released artwork standing behind Lunafreya, who is said to play an important role in the story.
Chocobos and fishing gameplay were also shown in the presentation. Chocobos can be rented for up to thirty days and be called upon at any time. If players dismount a chocobo it will follow them for a brief time. There. Meanwhile, fishing allows players to catch fish of various sizes using different rods. The fish can then be cooked back at camp and eaten by the party to provide bonuses. Some chocobo and fishing gameplay can be seen below.
