Square Enix recently set up a seven day countdown timer that was very clearly connected to The World Ends With You in some way. That timer has finished its countdown and, while hopes for a true sequel to the popular RPG have been dashed for now, something interesting has been revealed. The new The World Ends With You: Solo Remix is an iOS port of the original game that features some differences from the DS version. It has already been released on the iOS App Store, and can be purchased on the iPhone 4 for $17.99, €14.99, or £12.99 or on the iPad 2 for $19.99, €15.99, or £13.99.
The original The World Ends With You was designed around the two screens of the DS, so the Solo Remix has made some significant changes to the battle system in order to adapt it to a single screen. The player now only controls the main character Neku directly, but can call the partner characters into the main screen in order to attack enemies. The new version will also include new remixed music tracks, high resolution graphics, and Twitter integration. More information can be found on the game's official site.
