Square Enix has announced that its eagerly anticipated Final Fantasy III DS will be released in North America on November 14th. Final Fantasy III, originally released for the Famicom in 1990, is the only Final Fantasy which had not seen a North American release.
The Nintendo DS remake features many enhancements over the original, such as 3D graphics and touch screen usage. The story and characters have been revitalized with much more personality development than was present in the 1990 version, and greater balance has been added to the class system to increase the appeal of some of the less popular jobs.
In 2004, Square Enix polled its customers via a survery included with the Japanese release of Final Fantasy I & II Advance, asking what fans would like to see remade for the Nintendo DS. The top choice, Final Fantasy III, was announced the following fall.
