Asheron's Call 2 developer Turbine has officially announced that the game's service will end. Though their reasons for terminating the game weren't entirely clear, Turbine did mention that "it no longer made sense to continue the service". The last day the game will be available is December 30th of this year. There was no news, however, on whether Turbine was accepting any new subscriptions nor if it would follow a few other MMORPGs and offer one last free month before the end.
Asheron's Call 2 was originally released in North America on November 20th, 2002, and expansion pack Asheron's Call 2: Legions went live on May 5th of this year. This means that by the time it will be shut down, the MMORPG - originally published by Microsoft Games - will have survived more than three years of service before the shutdown.
