Square Enix has opened the official site for the North American release of Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King. Currently the site only houses a splash page with the official trailer currently the only item available. The company states on the page that the full site will be unveiled soon.
Dhoulmagus, the Evil Jester, has stolen a fabled sceptre and has turned the kingdom upside down, turning people into thorns, and the king and princess into beasts. The only person left unscathed is a young guardsman who takes up his sword and heads out into the world to right the wrongs that have befallen the country.
The title was developed by Level 5, of Dark Cloud fame, and was published in Japan by Square Enix on November 27, 2004 and promptly sold over three million copies in the first few days after its release. The title is once again scheduled for a November release, this time in North America. Though the series is not as popular in the States as it is in Japan, with a lack of a new blockbuster RPG release this fall, this title could be the biggest selling Dragon Quest title yet. Dragon Quest VIII is also scheduled for release in Europe, though no release date has been mentioned at this time.
