Bandai Namco today officially announced Code Vein, a new action RPG being developed by the team behind the God Eater series. The game takes place in the near future where a mysterious disaster in the form of the Thorns of Judgment, wipes out human civilisation. Humanity is reduced to a single stronghold named Vein, which is inhabited by the surviving Revenants, humans will special powers known as Gifts.
Players control one of these Revenants and team up with a companion from Vein as they look to recover lost memories while fighting to survive against the ghouls outside. Assisting the Revenants are Blood Veils, devices that drain the blood of enemies to enhance their Revenant's powers; Gifts, abilities such as special overpowered attacks or changing form to increase strength; and various types of weaponry. As a cost for their powers, Revenants are driven by a bloodlust and giving into this bloodlust causes them to lose their humanity and join the ranks of mindless ghouls.
Code Vein is planned for a worldwide release sometime in 2018. Exact platform details were not given, but Bandai Namco stated the game will be released on major home consoles.
