Nihon Falcom released new details for its upcoming release of Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana in Japan. Likely the biggest news to series fans is the return of main character Adol's long-time adventuring partner, Dogi. The game takes place four years after Dogi last helped out Adol and the two both find themselves aboard the passenger ship Lombardia searching for the next adventure.
The captain of the Lombardia is the other newly-revealed character, Barbaros. Looked up to by the crew and passengers, he takes on a leadership role when disaster strikes and the Lombardia sinks near the Isle of the Seiren where the game takes place. To fund their adventures, Adol is working as a sailor on the ship, while Dogi serves as a labourer.
Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is schedule for release in Japan on PlayStation Vita on July 28, 2016, with a PlayStation 4 version to follow in 2017. No announcement has been made at this stage regarding a western release.
