The RPGs are coming fast and furious on Nintendo's new handheld generation. If you've already finished the 8th day of Devil Survivor, it is time to survive another week of horror and carnage in Devil Survivor 2 for the DS. An all-new cast of characters must face their untimely deaths head on and live on with the knowledge their future is malleable...but an evil force wants to ensure they don't live another hour!
Visit Tokyo, Nagoya, and other cities within Japan to flesh out this creepy story. A rumoured website floating around the high school where the protagonists are enrolled shows people's deaths in all the gory detail. These are shown in-game as fully rendered cut scenes which will both enthrall and terrify the player and move the game's plot forward. In our demo, three teenagers who previously were complete strangers all get a text message on their phones showing the train they are waiting for crushing them to death. They then use this foreknowledge to avoid the deadly crash, only to discover demons have arrived to ensure the trio has been properly squashed.
The game is described by Aram (PR for Atlus) as a mix of Devil Summoner with Persona 3/4. It retains the demon auction system from the first game, along with fusions and summons, but an important aspect will also be developing a deeper relationship with individuals surrounding the protagonist, in a similar vein as Persona's social links aided the player.
With more demons than Devil Survivor, collectors will have their hands full creating a full roster of creatures to master and control. While no release date was mentioned as the game was still in Japanese during the demo, and a final ESRB rating is still pending, expect this mature-themed title to be hitting DS cartridges in 2012.
