Back in December 2008, Atari and CD Projekt RED announced that a rebuilt version of the PC title The Witcher was being developed for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. WideScreen Games, a French company, was given development duties for the console game, retitled The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf.
Earlier this week, it was rumored that trouble was brewing for Rise of the White Wolf. WideScreen Games has now officially announced that the game's development has been frozen due to financial concerns. Olivier Masclef, manager at WideScreen Games, still hopes to find an "amicable solution" with his company's partners over Rise of the White Wolf. WideScreen had already recreated the entire code of The Witcher using the company's Da Vinci proprietary engine. Though Rise of the White Wolf has been halted for now, WideScreen is still continuing to work on other projects.
