Square Enix is holding its European Fan Festival for Final Fantasy XIV this weekend in Frankfurt, Germany, and used the event to reveal plenty more details regarding the game's upcoming Stormbloodexpansion during a keynote presenation. The keynote began with the reveal of the full opening movie for the expansion, which can be viewed below.
As shown in the new movie, the Stormblood expansion will not only take players to Ala Mhigo, it will also see them visiting the nation of Doma on the far eastern continent of Othard. Also shown in the new video and by producer Naoki Yoshida's on-stage outfit, is the new Samurai job. Samurai is a close-ranged melee DPS job based on the strength attribute and uses a katana for its weapon. Like the other new job announced for Stormblood, Red Mage, Samurai will begin at level 50 and is not attached to a base class.
The Doman port town of Kugane was revealed as a new player hub for the expansion, which features Far East-inspired architecture. The new Kojin beast tribe and the new Susano (Lord of the Revel) primal based in Doma were revealed, along with a trio of zones: Yanxia, the Azim Steppe, and the Ruby Sea. Doma also hosts to the fourth residental area in Final Fantasy XIV — Shirogane — with the expansion implementing double the amount of furnishing capacity.
Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood will be available for PlayStation 4, PC, and Mac on June 20, 2017. The PlayStation 3 version of Final Fantasy XIV will cease service upon Stormblood's release, though players can able to upgrade to the PlayStation 4 version for free through the PlayStation 3 to PlayStation 4 Upgrade Campaign, which players can find at the following links depending on their region: Japan, North America, and Europe.
