SEGA recently announced Phantsy Star Online 2's surprising price point. Unlike the earlier Phantasy Star Online games, PSO2 will be free-to-download and free-to-play. There are certain items that players will have to pay for, though. SEGA also announced that there will be a version of PSO2 for iOS and Android devices. The smartphone version will reportedly have a simpler character creation system and controls, but also have social game elements missing from the PC and Vita versions.
The PC version of Phantasy Star Online 2 will be released first, set for some time in early summer of this year. The smartphone version will come out before the Vita version, the former in Winter 2012 and the latter in Spring 2013.
