Square Enix Ltd. has announced the European release of its popular Valkyrie Profile series including both Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth for the PlayStation Portable and Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria for the PlayStation 2. For those unfamiliar with the series, Lenneth is a remake of the PlayStation's original Valkyrie Profile, and Silmeria was released several years later, in the form of a prequel.
Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth takes place in Valhalla, the Norse mythological land of the gods. A war is brewing between two opposing factions, and Lenneth is commanded by the mighty Odin to seek out souls in the mortal land of Midgard below to use as warriors in the upcoming battle. With time against her, Lenneth must seek out the brightest of souls nearing their death and convince them to join the ranks of the gods above.
Hundreds of years before Lenneth's story took place, Silmeria, once a faithful servant of Odin, has abandoned her ties with Valhalla. Forcefully reincarnated as a human in the world of Midgard, Silmeria finds herself trapped in the body of Alicia, Princess of Dipan. Something has gone wrong with the transmigration leaving both souls trapped in a single body. Now Silmeria must convince Alicia to awaken the strength within her and avoid the searching eyes of Odin above.
John Yamamoto, president and chief executive officer of Square Enix Ltd. comments, "As two titles that are held in very high regard worldwide, we're delighted to be bringing the Valkyrie Profile series to Europe and hope for
both games to enchant an entirely new audience."
Some new CG sequences in Lenneth will give players a broader understanding of the game's storyline, and several of the scenes will link with the plotline of Silmeria. Lenneth will see European shelves on April 27, and Silmeria will follow closely behind with a late summer 2007 release.
