Through a Japanese publication, Square Enix has divulged new details pertaining to Drag-On Dragoon 2, the upcoming sequel to last year's Drakengard. As previously reported, the story picks up 18 years following the events in Drakengard, and will revolve around a young knight named Nowe, as well as the heroine Mana, who has since matured greatly since her role as a six-year-old in the original Drakengard. The duo will embark on a quest to bring down the Crimson Knights, the group responsible for brewing the current chaos inflicting the world.
During their journeys, the two will be accompanied by a masked man named Urich, who is a former Crimson Knight and close friend of Nowe. Urich is said to be cheery, and somewhat of a joker. However, three years ago he made a pact with the Death God Shinigami to gain some unnamed power.
Aside from new character details, also revealed were a few new gameplay details. Like the first Drakengard, players will only be able to control one character in their party at a time. However, by changing the weapons you wish to use, you change which character you control. For example, if you want to use a sword, you'll be playing as Nowe; if you want to hack away at enemies with an axe, you'll be playing Urich, and if you want to use magic, you'll be playing as Mana. Battles in mid-air will always be played with Nowe and Legna, but Legna will have a larger role than just that. It will be possible to summon him during ground-battles by using the "Dragon Overdrive" skill, where he can swoop in to flatten enemies, or breathe fire to burn them to a crisp.
Drag-On Dragoon 2 is slated for release in Japan in spring of this year. North America has yet to receive word of a localization.
