Silkenray - November 1 '00 - 0:30 Eastern Daylight Time

Well, I'm back! You'll never get rid of me.... OHohohohoho! (I'll ask Goog to post me doing that laugh later, if I can manage it...) Happy Halloween! People asked me what I was doing for halloween, and I said, "I'm gonna be doing a Q&A column for the website I work at." In general, the reaction I got was a vague stare, followed by "You poor thing". However, I don't mind it, honestly. In fact, I rather enjoy doing Q&A on occasion. I probably couldn't stand to do it every day, though. Ah well... on to the column!

Um....hi Silkenray

I have a question involving FF9 which you may or may not know anything about. Are there specific characters/classes that can use magic? I know they say they're trying to return to the "old" ways of FF. I mean in that last several main streem rpgs from square (FF6,7,8,&CC) any joe can use any magic. I've delt with it since then, but it would be nice to return to the days when being a mage ment something. Now you can make well rounded partys of the best atackers and give them any magic you want. they may not be the best at using it, but they make up for that in the fact that can lay a stright @$$ whoopin' on anything with good ole brute force. Give me back the physicaly week, low HP wizards who rely on they're skill and the protection of the fighters to get buy.

Konbanwa, Styx-san. Ogenki desu ka? *blink* Sorry... in Japanese mode.

Turning Japanese, I think I'm turning Japanese, I really think so... *blink* Oh sorry, in 80's pop music mode...

Well, to actually answer your question... Yes, wizards will be able to use magic, and fighters will only be able to use limited magic, if any. This game is designed to be more "old school" then the later ones, and thus follows the earlier trends to have set classes.

This person has a life?

Dear Silk,
Okay, I wouldn't normally do this, but as Black Chocobo mentioned it in the title yesterday....I just had to!!! Forgive me if it's a bit off, I copied it from memory. (I do to have a life!!!!!!!)

"Beware the Jabberwock my son,
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch.
Beware the fearsome jub-jub bird,
And shun the fruminous bandersnatch."

His vorpal blade he took in hand,
long time the manxome foe he sought.
So he rested by the tum-tum tree,
and stood a while in thought.

And as in uffish thought he stood,
the Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
and burbled as it came.

One-two, one-two, and through and through,
the vorpal blade went snicker-snack.
He left it dead, and with it's head,
he came galumphing back.

"Hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
Calooh, calay, oh frubjious day!
He chortled in his joy."

T'was brillig and the slithy toves
Did gryre and grimble in the wabe
All mimsy were the borogroves
And the momewraths did outgrabe

Fan Overview of PS2 RPGs

just to say, there is more than one Q&A reader that got a ps2, namely myself, but I imagine there are others. anyway, a brief summary on all the launch rpgs

Orphen, a unique quirky battle system, a rude main character, and all too linear gameplay. but fun.

Evergrace, standard action rpg fare, with an unusually large selection of equipment, many puzzles center around the kind of equipment you wear. also very fun.

Summoner, a decent combat system, the ability to summon big nasty creatures, and a PC style interface. also fun, but I'm kind of turned off from it right now due to the all too vast city scapes.

Thank you very much for your opinion on the launch RPGs. I will certainly keep that in mind when I go to buy RPGs when my PS2 arrives... grarf... stupid waiting list.

Riding Lessons

Hey Silky Sweetie

I've got a FF Tactics question for you. How do you ride chocobos? I've seen pictures of it, but I've never been able to figure out how to do it. It makes me sad.

The Pansy of Doom
(My girlfriend left me for the wookie)
(Chewbacca, what a wookie!)
Is there anything better to do then sing wookie songs when you're feeling blue?

To ride a chocobo, you tell a character to move onto the space that the chocobo is in. Then you choose "yes" when it asks wether you want to ride it or not. Just a warning- it takes a turn to dismount.

Half my mailbox

Hello Silkenray

Hey, didn't Black Chocobo say something about "the odd placement of the power switch... what's up with that?". Any idiot knows that you're supposed to hold down the reset switch to put it in standby, and it'll come out of standby if you open the DVD deck or if you push the reset button again.

John Q. Reader

This is really informative... oh, and that's a simulated letter compiled from half the letters in my mailbox. If there is someone who goes by "John Q. Reader" or if your name is "John Q. Reader" I humbly apologise. Any resemblence to real people is purely coincidental

Hey Silky Smooth Operator,

Three questions for you:

1) How's the RPGMaker games section coming along in Media Central? Is it going to happen? I think I might buy a copy of the game if I see some downloads available to play.

2) Did any of the staffers get a Playstation 2? I was hoping to see a review of Summoner and Orphen at least.

3) How YOU doin? :)

1) Soon, soon... I'm working on a little opening day treat, but we'll have to see.
2) One or two of us have a PS2, I'm getting mine the 11th, Paws is getting one soon...
3) I'm fine, but tired...

I'm currently recording the entire script of Ogre Battle 64. My question is, where could I submit it to on the web?

Insanerest of AOL
Servant of Darkness and D.D.S.

I'm sure they'd be more than happy for that script at our own Information Station

*Lunar 2 Eternal Blue Spoilers?*

Greetings Silky. I have A question for you. It's about Lunar: Eternal Blue. I've played through the the original Sega CD version, and was wondering about Lucia. On the Sega CD version she is in your party most of the game, but she is A permanent NPC, she just does whatever she wants in battle. I was wondering if this was changed for the PS version that is going to be released. If you don't know, then please send this to Google.

Yes, indeed, she is in your party almost the entire game, and you cannot control her during battles

Hiya Silkenray, the angel-voiced guest host of Q&A, couple of questions, for once in order of importance

1) What do we need to do to get you to upload more songs?! They are essential to our continued living or perhaps just really cool.

2) assuming you have played grandia, would it be a good idea to wait till after playing/beating grandia to start grandia 2?

3) If given the choice between Skies of Arcadia, and Grandia 2, which would you go for? I haven't really been following the two long enough to see which is more appealing, and everyone always raves about how great grandia was, so HELP!!! :)

"Democracy is a bludgeoning of the people, by the people, for the people"

btw, the quote is from Planescape: Torment, most likely from the guy right outside of the mortuary, but I'm not positve on who

Fine, fine... here's a present for you and the other people who asked... In honor of Halloween... a song from Rocky Horror Picture Show. Now, I only watched the show once, so... um... I may be a little off tune, and lyrics. I would reccomend playing Grandia first, but I don't think it's necessary. Now... the last bit is a very very tough choice... I'd probably get Skies of Arcadia, just because my Dreamcast is collecting dust. Oh, and you got the quote... tildes for all! ~~~~~~~

Frightening Quickies

Don't mock my integrity.

Not planning on it...?

I just gotta say, your a capella rendition of "happy birthday" was awesome! ^_^
Do you sing profesionally?

Naw, I'm nowhere near close to professional quality. However, I am taking voice lessons for college credit.

Whazup! I have a minor query to challenge your FF knowledge. Is there a way to 'unstone' Palom and Porom in FF4?

There is no way, in either the Japanese or the American version

I didn't get many quickies, so here's some filler!

The Last Laugh:

Here's the conclusion of the PS2 deathmatch... I lost. You people didn't vote for me... :(
