LordBrian - June 24 '01- 21:30 Eastern Standard Time

Let's get this intro finished quickly, since more than likely nobody cares all that much anyway. Here at RPGamer, you may have seen my name in passing on the main page. I'm a member of the New Media team, which derives great pleasure from bringing you the latest screens, artwork, movies, etc. from around the Web. In real life, I'm a student at Lehigh University, currently majoring in English. Most of my time is spent playing video games, but occasionally I come up for air to listen to some game music or to watch some anime. I'll sit through any anime you throw at me, as long as it's not related to Dragonball, Tenchi, Gundam, Ranma, or other such crapfests. Ummmmm...oh, and at the moment I'm passionately in love with my Game Boy Advance. That's about all for now.

What's wrong with small talk? Oh, corny, right

Couple of quick ones, I won't make small talk, thats corny. 1) whats the deal with Square and dealing with other companies besides Sony? I heard they had disputes with Microsoft over online gaming, so does that mean they are free to make games for microsoft?

I'm not sure what disputes you're referring to, but as far as I know, Square doesn't have an exclusive deal with anyone. For example, they've already said that Final Fantasy XI will be coming to both the PS2 and PC's, so I don't see why other games couldn't come to platforms such as GameCube and Xbox. It all comes down to who strikes the better deal.

2) Do you see GBA's price dropping any lower, I know its like 90 bucks, but it would be cool if it was lower when I actually intend to buy one, when all the RPG ports come in, well thats one BOF, but then Golden Sun

Eventually I'm sure the price will drop to a lower level, but probably not any time in the foreseeable future (as long as you want to buy new). The Game Boy Color is still $70 at places like Electronics Boutique, so the GBA won't be approaching that for a while yet.

3) Last one, let me get this straight. Real life people, send in actual games, 40-60 AMERICAN DOLLAR games to Q&A HOSTS and get to host for one day. Are people really that obsessed to throw away 60 bucks to answer emails for one day that will soon be losted in the archives forever?

I've always found this a bit odd myself, and thought I was missing something the first time I heard of it. I mean, hosting the column's fun and all, but is it more fun than the game you're giving up? To answer your question, you seem to have it straight, except they give up games to guest host, not actually host.

"My fiend"? What have I done to deserve such animosity?

Hey Lord B, You see, I'm a huge Suikoden fan. I'm playing Suikoden for the 3rd time right now and then I'm going for my 6th game of Suikoden II. Is there a point in me saying that? No. All I want to know is whether or not Suikoden III as been confirmed for a release States-wise. If it's not coming over here, I'm gonna start one big hell of a petition my fiend!

Konami hasn't announced a North American release for Suikoden III yet, but I'm confident that it'll make its way over here at some point, without a petition. Give it some's not even close to being released in Japan yet, let alone North America.

And also, I just read that FFXI will (only) cost 11$ yearly to play. I wasn't too sure if I was going to buy it or not because of monthly fees but 11$ a year seems pretty reasonable to me. What's your take on FFXI ? That's all.

~Xeros89 "Lois, you know it's illegal for women to drive!"

I'm waiting until I hear more about FFXI before I take a definitive stance on it. If they can maintain the feel of the previous games and not degenerate into an EverQuest-type game, I'll be very happy. And as far as pricing goes, I agree that $11/year isn't too bad. If it was $11/month that would be a different story, but I'll gladly pay a minimal fee per year to get my fix of Final Fantasy.

I like multipart questions

....where are those monks?

<insert long time reader first time writer yada yada here>. Glad to have you on board LB. I'll keep it short:

1) When oh when is Dragon Warrior 3 coming out for GBC?

Last I checked, the ship date was around July 15th, so stores shoud get it in a day or two later.

2) I'm an otaku, (send flames to ""), does anyone there know if any anime based games, RPG or otherwise will be ported to the states for any of the upcoming systems? Gamecube, GBA, X-Box .

I'm not sure if you want games based on existing anime series, or just anime-style games. At any rate, I think Arc the Lad spawned an anime series if that counts, as did Wild Arms (but WA3 is currently unconfirmed for North America), but as for games based on pre-existing series, you may be out of luck. At least, I can't think of any off the top of my head. However, there are several anime-based games due out here at some point, including (but not limited to) Hoshigami, Jade Cocoon 2, and Golden Sun (for the PSX, PS2, and GBA respectively). It may or may not be what you want, but it's all I could come up with.

3) How much wood could a woodchuck chuck...wait...wrong script. Any updated information on Coldstone?

I'm not exactly a big follower of Mac stuff, but any new info we get will be posted to the Coldstone page.

4) Let's wrap this up with a bang, MMORPGs, Fun, or Not? Thank you, it's been fun, stick a fork in me, I'm done.

~Chaze "....ooops?" Xavier

The way I see it, MMORPGs are just glorified chat rooms, so I don't find them to be that much fun at all. I greatly prefer something with a more focused storyline.

You know you're a real host when Imperial Mog send you letters

Hey (monks sing) LORD BR-IAN I got five I mean three questions for you. We already know your name so.
1. What is your quest?

In the long run, my quest is to bring love and peace to the world. In the short run, it's to finish this column.

2. What is your favorite color?

Various shades of gray. Boring, yes, but it makes dressing in the dark really easy.

3. What is the air-speed velocity of an unlaiden swallow?

African or European?

I have to give the new Q&A person a through grounding in "O" level geography as required by international law. Also I've had an interesting thought. If you could have one RPG cliche apply in the real world, what would you want it to be?

Hmm, good question. I guess I'd want to have save points all over the world. They'd be really nifty when exam time rolls around.

Also, I want to see Amano drawings of Disney characters since the idea is silly. Oh, and Nobuko, the monks are on their way since I can never refuse a request from a female. Also note, i am a GUY!!! The idea of me as a female is too scary, imagine my temper if I had to deal with "that time of month"? Unless, someone gave me the same curse as Googleshng and Ranma. I have to avoid cold water now so I won't find out. The idea of an Imperial Mog (Greg Etter) 1/2 is too scary for the world to bear.
Imperial Mog

Actually, I think Amano Disney characters would be really cool to see, since I'm a big fan of his art. Unfortunately, once the kids see how emaciated and decrepit their beloved animal friends had become they'd probably be scarred for life.

Wait, you mean Kuja's a guy?

Final Fantasy IX Spoilers

I just completed Final Fantasy 9 and I must say....GREAT GAME....COOL ENDING (tear jerker moments crank me down). Anyway....I was wondering......were there any hidden weapons in this version. I mean, like the ruby & emerald & diamond weapons found in 7. Maybe i just missed them or something. If there are any in the game hidden.....where da hell are they?. Also....Did I miss what happened to Kuja? Did he die/live? Last I saw of him, Zidane & Kuja where sitting at the bottom of the Lifa tree. If Zidane lived, he must have too, or, was his butt whippin so bad , he never recovered? Did I miss that tidbit of info while wringing out my hanky? Also....can someone please tell my wife to stop proofreading EVERY SINGLE DAMN E-MAIL I WRITE!!!!

Star "wiping the tears away" warrior

Yeah, I liked the ending as well. There is a hidden "Weapon" in the game (called Ozma), though you would only find it if you played through the Chocobo Hot and Cold sidequest. Without going into the details about that, once you finally get to the Chocobo's Air Garden, walk to the island towards the back of the area. Check the large rock, and prepare yourself for an annoyingly difficult battle.

That's interesting, wondering about the fate of Kuja...I never really thought about it. I'm almost positive he died, if not from his injuries or the killer roots then from whatever Garland did to limit his life once Zidane grew up.

Oh, and Mrs. Star Warrior, please stop proofreading every single damn e-mail he writes. It seems to be getting to him.

I know I shouldn't, but I can't resist

Xenogears spoilers...I guess

Fei never quite recovered from his multiple personality syndrome. There was only one hope left for the universe...

I'll swallow your soul!

Sorry you guys had to see that, but I post what people send me since I'm such a nice guy.

when does shenmue 2 come out

September 8th in Japan, probably sometime before the end of the year in North America.

Before I Go:

I want to thank everyone for the warm reception, and I hope you all enjoyed this column. Perhaps if you're very lucky, I'll be back one day to dazzle and entertain you some more with my wit and wisdom (or lack thereof, depending on your outlook). Anyway, Aegis will be here again next time, so send him lots of mail.

LordBrian "Not that kind of passionate!"
I dunno what Goog's talking about...there are definitely three guns
