It seems there's recently been a lot of unholy experimentation going on in the world of chips. I recently had a chance to try pickle flavored poptato chips, which strangely actually tasted like pickles, and guacamole Doritos. They taste as close to guacamole as you can expect from Doritos, but dang do they ever look moldy. Anyway though, here's a guest host.

S.H. Silver: Hi, I'm S.H. Silver. I can't regretably say that I have been checking out this site for years or any of that but I stumbled on to it a while ago. It basically entertained me for the second semester last year and I have been a loyal reader ever since. About myself, I am a second year student at The University of Iowa studying Finance, Accounting, and Chinese. I know, not Japanese!!! but that was closed my first semester so I took Chinese and I love it. Anyway, I have been in an RPG funk so I am hoping this inspires me. My favorite games are FFIV, FFVI, Chrono Trigger, and Skies of Arcadia Legends. Now enough about me, onto the letters.

Multiparter the First

Hey Google, Just letting people know, because of the one guy who changed classes after every time he raise it a higher level, is that you can use the normal brawler or warrior, and no matter what you raise its level you'll be able to change into the higher classes. The only classes you need to level up seperately, and have all three at the level and not delete them until after you get the class, is the Red, Blue, Green Mage/Skull classes, which is the only way to get the another mage class, which can level to another, and then the other leveling up to the best mage class. Also getting characters to a certain level, and another class to another certain level, you can get other classes.

Also, I've never transmigrated a character until I've gotten to the very end of the game, which is when I transmigrated the mage I used normally, into the best mage class(which was extremely useful against the last boss, and took off more damage than almost all my other characters doing their best attacks as combos).

S.H. Silver:
I'm not even sure that was English. Anyway my advice is just do whatever you want in a game. If you screw up, you have the reset button right there. Same goes for life.

Thanks to a weird little glitch of how I'm stiching this column together, I've already addressed this issue... in a later letter.

Anyways, I collect the Castlevania series, and I bought a used copy of Symphony of the Night, which I've already owned before, but it's been so long since I've played it so I went to play it again. The thing is, I don't know if it's glitched or not, the farther I got into the game the easier it got, being able to kill every enemy without taking much damage at all, and I only have an hour and I'm at the inverted castle already(which it only took me 3 hours normally to get to everywhere in both castles and kill dracula), so anyways, I'll load the character I have on my friends Castlevania Symphony of the Night so I'll be sure if the game is glitched or not, or if the fact that I've played it so much it's just too easy for me, which I'll find out by having one set of weapons and armor equipped and getting attacked by Guardian(an enemy near the giant clock, the most powerful enemy in the game), and do the same with my character loaded on his game. Then I'll let you know if it's glitched or not and see if he still wants it.

K. ... Talk about question length/answer length disparity.

I also have another question. Say you got everyone of those games that you named if someone sends him they'll get a free rare game and also being able to guest host, is he the one that picks the games he'd like to recieve from someone, or do you just pick a few that you think is rare(which they all are rare). -andrew- -kupomogli-

Guest hosts get complete control over what they request, and whose offer they accept. If I did that myself, that'd be kinda weird.

Multiparter the Second

1. I'm quite baffled and annoyed how those FF7 fanboys and haters are all judging the movie even before it comes out, and getting into flame wars in the process. I'm pretty sure that more people were banned in message boards across the net in the two days that followed the announcement than a whole regular month of bans. Anyway, do you have any plans to get the DVD on the day of sale, going to wait for some reviews, or not getting the movie at all?

S.H. Silver:
1. I myself thought two things. The first being that I really didn't feel it needed any more closure. I agree with Google in the respect that everything blowed up=adequate ending. The second was that I am happy that this speculation of a sequel is finally resolved. I loved FFVII and played it for around 300 hours but I felt that it lost interest towards the end and almost didn't even beat the game. I will poke a friend till they buy and then watch with them.

Well, assuming the sucker comes out here, I'll probably end up seeing it somehow or other, but I have no intention of going out of my way to do so.

2. In Disgaea, would you reccomend waiting for some decently high levels before transmigrating characters, or do you think its just as effective to transmigrate them when you get teh class you desire?

S.H. Silver:
2. I have yet to play Disgaea since I am terribly dumb when it comes to strategy or tactics. I played one battle of FFT and got whooped so I put it back in the case and haven't touched it since.

Well, it depends really. On the one hand, the longer you hold out, the better the available classes will be. Get a brawler type character up to level 5, a new brawler type class pops up, then another at 12, 25, 50 etc. So, you might want to hold off and just transmigrate once to the best classes. On the other hand, catching up to your former level goes surprisingly fast, and the more times you transmigrate a character the better, so I go for a transmigrate early, transmigrate often approach myself. I make it a point though to always hold out for a better class and a better inheritence rate. Then of course there's some people out there who just say smurf the whole thing and just make new characters, but that's short-sighted really.

3. About guest hosting.... would you mind if they're bootlegged? Considering how rare some of those games are (Like Suikoden II), I had to get pirated copies. But.... nah, I'm sure you guys don't like pirated stuff. Plus, I live all the way across the pacific just 1 or 2 hours differential from Japan, so guest hosting would be a problem. =(

S.H. Silver:
3. Pirating is bad...and I don't trust a pirated copy. I do however think that talk like a pirate day, Sept 19th is a fully supportable cause.

There's a number of legal and moral reasons why that wouldn't fly for this little gimmick. As far as living in the wrong hemisphere goes though, I write these columns in the middle of the night, so it probably wouldn't be as big a problem as you'd think.

Nearly all my mail these days has the same subject line: FFVII: Advent Children

First off, I'd like to say I fully agree that you need to wait for the FFVII movie epilogue to actually come out (or at least for more then a page of images to be available for perusing. For god's sake people. Incidentally, the only thing that bugs me in the least on said page is that Cloud's clearly visible eye isn't at all glowy.) before getting a strong opinion on it one way or another. Look at how many times a game has come out that's been made out by fanboys/girls to have come straight from the hands of God Itself before release only to have the same people calling it a stinking pile of manure shortly thereafter. Case in point, FFVIII, though I myself don't agree (yeah, I know, I know. I'm suitably ashamed of myself for admitting it in polite company). Then there're games that everyone and their dogs think will be the worst things to hit [insert favorite console name here] since [insert name of previous worst game on said console in your opinion here] only to find they fully enjoy it. Most people that I've encountered's opinions of Kingdom Heart would fit here, and FFX-2 will probably (hopefully) join it shortly. So, unless they reveal a plotpoint or something that I know beyond a shadow of a doubt I'll love or hate, I'm reserving judgement. And even if that happens I'll only be positive in my feelings towards that one bit.

So, I actually did have a point I meant to get to. I was wondering if there was anything you'd really like to see the characters doing two years down the line when the movie starts. Sadly, I'm positive that the mental picture I've held all these years of their futures is not to be, as it's pretty much Harvest Moon with Chocobos. Since the majority of my time in the last two discs deals primarily with the capturing, breeding, raising, and racing of Chocobos I've always harboured the idea that that's where their lives would take them afterwards. I have this whole happy life planned out for them all in my head, starting with the purchase of the Chocobo Ranch and surrounding area with their vast heaps of gil, that will now be rendered obsolete. Well, I'll put my trust into the writers and hope that they'll come up with something equally pleasing. Or at least that, if it does turn out to be a giant pile of tripe, they don't screw things up enough that I can't just imagine th e happy life of Chocobo raising starting after it's over.

Oh, and farming life or no, I'd love to at least see the four special Chocobo you raise during the course of the game on the big (Well, TV-sized.) screen. Just to get to see them in the prettier, better, graphics, as a little treat.

Clearly having played one to many Harvest Moon games,

S.H. Silver:
I too will reserve final judgment until after I view this masterpiece/PoS that I am sure is to spark more debate than FFVIII. I personally don't really care for the characters anymore. I have moved on with my life. They were never actually a part of my life. I am anticipating to see where they go with this but I don't really care much about the subject. The only thing I want to see is Barret as a mormon or televangelist. That would crack me up. Oh, and FFVIII isn't that bad, it's just the execution of the game was poor and the whole GF memory thing was pretty out of the blue and dumb.

So I went from nothing but drool and bile to nothing but cries for reason. Eh, it's a step up.

S.H. Silver:Ni3 hao3. Ni3 hao3 ma? Wo3 hen3 hao3.

If absolute power corrupts absolutely, then how much experience does a corrupt god give?

S.H. Silver:Pi to the googleth power.
Google:Just the book value for killing monster. No way you'll get roleplaying EXP from those jerks.

Aren't you glad that this e-mail isn't asking about the new Final Fantasy 7 Movie?

S.H. Silver:No, I want to emote over and over again about how I really don't care.
Google:Ah, but you see in a sense you are!

The Last Laugh:

S.H. Silver: Okay, well that was fun and quick. I enjoyed my time so far. Keep sending those offers for the cool games. Just go to a local store and you'll be surprised what you find. I found 2 PSIII's and a PSIV in one trip. That and play Skies of Arcadia (either version). It is an excellent game. See you next Tuesday and 'til then may your weapons slice thine enemys and may you never lose a save.

Google: Ah, feels good to whip out the old guest host template. Evidently it's been almost a year since I've had one for some reason. In any case, I'd suggest you try that whole ask Andrew questions about Japan bit again. But of course, don't forget to send plenty of letters to the other Andrew for the next three days.

Oh yes, and S.H. here is still really looking for a copy of the Arc Collection if anyone's willing to part with it.

Googleshng "Wee, guest hosts are fun."

So is passing legislation. Wow, never thought I'd say THAT.
